Sailor Moon manga soared again in US Bookstores on April

Blue Exorcist anime volume 1 cover

Blue Exorcist manga is also on the rise!

The tenth volume of Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moon manga ranked at #4 on Nielsen BookScan's list of top 20 graphic novels in American bookstores for April.

The same volume had ranked at #5 on the list in March. The Sailor Moon volume is one of four manga titles on the list. Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto volume 60 ranked at #7, dropping from #3 from last month.

Kazue Katō's Blue Exorcist volume 9 and Tite Kubo's Bleach volume 56 ranked at #11 and #18 respectively. Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic series continued to dominate the chart, claiming nine places this month, with The Walking Dead Compendium volumes 1 and 2 again taking the top two spots.

Gene Luen Yang's Avatar the Last Airbender: The Search -- Part 1 ranked #3.

The BookScan rankings represent sales at Barnes & Noble and other book chains, independent bookshops, and online purchases — but not sales at comic book stores, Walmart, and some other venues.

New Locke the Superman manga to come out in June

Simply amazing, I wouldn't mind a anime series of this classic , given that there's only one movie.

The June issue of Media Factory's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine announced a new series in Yuki Hijiri's Locke the Superman franchise on Thursday. The tentatively titled Chōjin Locke: Toki no Kodomo-tachi (Locke the Superman: Children of Time) will start in the next issue on June 5.

The story is set after the destruction of Master Yūji, and the magazine promises that the manga will reveal "another page in the history of the galaxy." The original Locke the Superman manga ran in at least three different magazines from 1967 to 1989.

It chronicled an immortal figure's adventures at different periods throughout time. It inspired a movie and three original video anime projects (Locke the Superman: Lord Leon, Locke the Superman: Mirror Ring, Locke the Superman: New World Battle Team).

Mamoru Hatakeyama (Sankarea) is directing the new adaptation of Peach-Pit’s manga, from scripts by Fancy Lala creator & screenwriter Tomomi Mochizuki. The 2013 anime will be a new adaptation of the original manga rather than a continuation of the 2004-2006 anime franchise animated by studio Nomad. The new anime series will premiere in July.

Hoping it has the same success as HunterxHunter!

Senyu's new season will premiere on July

Not surprised at all.

The latest issue of Jump Square magazine announced that a second season has been greenlit and it will premiere on July.

In Robinson Haruhara's original manga, a gigantic hole suddenly opened up in the world one day, and demons appeared. The king thinks that this portends the return of Satan Rchimedes, who was sealed away by the hero Creation a millenium ago. The king decreed that the descendants of the hero must take on the threat, and 75 people showed up. Hero No. 45 (Alba, played by Hiro Shimono) and a sadistic palace warrior (Ross, played by Yūichi Nakamura) team up, and their adventure begins.

Spring Anime Preview 2013: Sequel to To Aru Majutsu no Index premieres on April 12

That's right, and it's titled 'Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S', or 'A Certain Scientific Railgun'. The story continues the Sister arc.

Here's the trailer:

Spring Anime 2013 preview: Aiura High School Girl anime premieres on April 9

Based on the 4-koma story by Chama, the story revolves around energetic but annoying Amaya, zero-motivation Iwasawa, and docile Uehara,  three fairly normal high school girls and their classmates. Their daily life is "what happens when there is nothing happening."

It sounds like a good premise, even if I'm not fond of moe-type.

Cosplay 101: So You Want to Be a Cosplayer?

Cosplay, short for “costume play,” refers to the costumed portrayal of a character from a book, film or television series. Cosplay is a great way to showcase your craftsmanship and interact with other members of your fandom, but crafting the perfect cosplay is not as easy as it looks. Here are a few do’s and don’ts for a beginner cosplayer to keep in mind.

DO:

Research thoroughly

As soon as you decide what character you’re cosplaying, start gathering reference pictures, preferably from original sources. For instance, when planning a cosplay of Loki from the Avengers, look for stills from the film or production photos of the character. It’s also a good idea to see what others’ past cosplays of that character have looked like.

Budget your money

In general, making a cosplay from scratch will be less costly than purchasing it. Materials aren’t cheap, though, particularly if you’re looking to use more heavy-duty or fancier fabrics such as velvet or brocade. Shop around. Keep an eye out for sales, and check stores’ websites and newspaper ads for coupons. Online distributors often sell items like buttons in bulk, much cheaper than buying them individually at a fabric store. Most beginners are unfamiliar with sewing or prop construction and choose instead to buy a professionally made cosplay. Keep in mind, however, that even a low-quality cosplay will typically cost between $50 and $100 (not including wigs, shoes and accessories).

…and your time

Serious cosplayers begin planning their costumes months in advance. It may seem excessive to start working on a costume three months before the convention, but you never know what could – and will – go wrong. Most cosplays purchased online are manufactured in China, Hong Kong or Japan, which means shipping could (and often does) take over a week. If the manufacturer offers resizing or other customizing services, expect to wait even longer. If you’re making the cosplay yourself, don’t try to whip the whole thing up a week before the convention. Most cosplays require several weeks to fully construct, barring any major fabric- or sewing machine-related crises.

DON'T:

...be afraid to ask for help

When first starting out, beginners are faced with questions about everything from where to find the right wig to how to sew a French seam. No matter what problem you’re facing, chances are there’s another cosplayer out there who’s dealt with it before. Online forums are a great resource for beginners looking for advice and feedback. Checking others’ ratings of online sellers is especially helpful. You don’t want to get scammed by a seller who takes your money and never sends your cosplay, or waste $50 on a wig someone found for $20.

...worry if it’s not “perfect”

A first-time cosplay is rarely perfect. Don’t fret if your shoes don’t have the right number of buckles, or if your seams are a little crooked. Cosplay is about having fun, and as long as you’re recognizable as the character you’re portraying, your cosplay is a success.
